This soundscape piece was composed especially for the Dandenong Ranges Open Studios Exhibition 2018 at Burrinja. After Brian orchestrated and recorded the tracks and sang all the vocals, he asked Jamie Saxe to add some additional SFX and impressions to the piece, which Jamie did to great effect.

Lyrics

What. Lies. Beneath. (Baker 2018)

In the back of the park where we used to play
There was a hole where a tunnel lay
A wide open mouth that called us in
If it's a dare
Then it can't be sin

Scraped muddy knees and cobweb hair
We crawled over concrete into the devils lair
Watched the sunlight fade friendly behind
And let the cool darkness
Fill our minds

What lies beneath has always been
This little death this darkened dream

And we wondered if when we were old
With creaking joints and faces lined
Would we still bravely go
Into the darkness
Leaving the light behind

What lies beneath has always been
This little death this darkened dream

In the back of the park where we used to play
There was a hole where a tunnel lay
A wide open mouth that called us in
What is it?
This fascination?
